Odours, Olfactometry

Odours in our environment are often desired and pleasant. Sometimes, however, the frequency or the type of odour causes a disturbance. By measurement and prognosis, it can be determined for the great part whether the perception of the odours exceeds the immission values and how this must be evaluated. There are many pertinent guidelines on this, such as the Geruchs-Immissionsrichtlinie, GIRL [Odour Concentration Guideline].

In land use planning, we check planned constructions to see whether they are compatible with existing operations, e.g. in the agriculture or food industry.

We forecast the odour immissions in the environment for planned plants with simple or complex calculation models, depending on the issue.

We make olfactometric measurement of the odour immissions and effectiveness of the discharged air filtering from existing plants with interviewees tested in accordance with DIN EN 13725:2003-07.Especially at high base loads we carry out odour or grid tests according to VDI-RL 3940 with interviewees. While this method is time consuming, it delivers reliable testimony of the degree of existing unpleasant odours.
