Special problems arise when sports and recreation facilities, such as football pitches, tennis courts, go-cart tracks, basketball courts, swimming pools and so on, are located adjacent to residential areas. In many cases, such facilities are most intensely used at times when neighbouring residents have the greatest need for peace and quiet, namely in the evenings and weekends. Particularly strict statutory requirements apply to such situations, and usually these can only be met using extensive noise control measures.
