Anechoic Room

The conception and design of the semi-anechoic room in Planegg allows for flexible test setups when searching for solutions to acoustical problems.

In the test room, sound power measurements for accuracy class 1 can be carried out according to ISO 3744/3745 as well as 3. GSVG - Third Ordinance of the Equipment Safety Law (machine noise information ordinance) for devices with a maximum volume of 0.45 m³ - approximately the size of washing machines. The lower limit frequency for these measurements amounts to 125 Hz.

Due to a special room-in-room construction design with an elastic layer, relatively high sound insulations between test and measurement room as well as to the rest of the building can be achieved so that even during the daytime the background noise level amounts to only approximately 5 dB(A).

These optimal measurement surroundings do not only provide ideal conditions for sound power level measurements complying with standards but also for investigations in the following fields and with the following methods:

  • sound analysis / sound reduction
  • localization of sound sources (array measurements)
  • psychoacoustics
  • acoustic design / sound engineering
  • analysis of sound paths
  • squeak and rattle tests
  • telecommunication (LSTR - Listener Side Tone Rating)

Due to the extremely low background noise level, appliances with a low but nevertheless audible operating sound can be analyzed. Furthermore, by the high sound insulation the microphone and structure borne sound signals can be monitored considerably amplified. This means that the operating noise will be investigated with an acoustic "magnifying glass". The measurement room is provided with a technique of the latest standard (16-channel measurement and analysis system PAK) and all necessary supply systems (compressed air and water).

Furthermore, a standardized monitoring studio is connected to the RAR which enables simultaneous hearing comparisons and psychoacoustic assessments by test persons.
