Acoustic issues related to urban areas

In an article for the magazine „gif im Fokus“ – edition 01/2017 – of the German Society for Real Estate Research (Gesellschaft für Immobilienwirtschaftliche Forschung e. V.), Dr. Benjamin Jäger from Müller-BBM’s subsidiary in Berlin deals with acoustic aspects related to urban areas.

Many people are interested in living in the city. According to § 1(5) of the German Federal Building Code BauGB, the associated space requirements should be increasingly met by taking advantage of unused areas in the city and – as far as practical – not by developing new areas on the outskirts. Besides, a large number of the (future) residents – and also the municipalities involved in the planning – have an interest in achieving a good mixture of commercial and residential uses. Business quarters abandoned after office and shop closing time should be avoided.
