Acoustic Upgrade for the Joan Sutherland Theatre at the Sydney Opera House
Temporary closure: The curtain will fall in the Joan Sutherland Theatre for seven months
The Joan Sutherland Theatre as the real opera hall in the Sydney Opera House ranks among the most famous opera houses in the world. The auditorium suitable both for opera and ballet seats an audience of nearly 1,500.
On Saturday, May 20, 2017, the Opera Australia Orchestra and the Australian Ballet will say a temporary goodbye to their faithful audience with a festive ballet performance. For the last time this year, "The Nutcracker" by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky will be performed. Then, the Joan Sutherland Theatre will be closed for a seven-months renewal period until its festive re-opening on December 31, 2017.
The main components of the renewal project to be completed in just seven months include a new theatre machinery, extensive upgrades in the orchestra pit as well as the installation of a new sound reinforcement system and an electro-acoustic enhancement system. Müller-BBM is in charge of the room acoustical and the electroacoustic design.
