Project with participation of Müller-BBM receives Deutschen Nachhaltigkeitspreis Forschung 2015 (German Price for Research on Sustainability

On 2015-11-27, the C³-Project (Carbon Concrete Composite) received the Deutsche Nachhaltigkeitspreis Forschung by the Stiftung Deutscher Nachhaltigkeitspreis e. V. In the category research, the project came ahead of 87 other research projects. This important national award for the excellence of sustainability is one of the most renowned awards of its kind in Europe.

The interdisciplinary project C3 with 130 partners from research, companies, and associations deals with the development of a new material combination of carbon fibres and high-performance concrete. C³ does not only save 50 % material but the new material is durable and extremely versatile. The new material conserves valuable resources and cuts the use of energy and costs. Thus, the greenhouse gas production is reduced. Furthermore, the new material has a higher load-carrying capacity and a lower susceptibility to corrosion than reinforced concrete.

Within the scope of the development, Müller-BBM designed measurement procedures for large scale experiments on demolition/dismantling/recycling and drilling/sawing. A general risk analysis for the processing of C³ test specimesn includes the measurement of occurring dust and fibres for different types of  processing and the resulting fibre sizes and distribution taking into account different distances to the processing location.
