A search using these criteria will include anything containing any of the words entered in the search field. All searches are case insensitive.
Boolean With a boolean search the results can be restricted to just those publications with specific combinations of words in the indicated field. For example, to find all titles containing both the words RAIL and NOISE, you would enter "RAIL AND NOISE" in the Title field. It is also possible to group sub-searches using parenthesis. For example, if in addition to the previous search, you also wanted to find any title with the German word BAHN anywhere in the title, then the search field would be "(RAIL AND NOISE) OR %BAHN%". (see the note below about special characters)
Special characters When entering boolean searches, the "%" character specifies zero or more characters at that location in the word. This can also be written using "*". To specify any character in a single location, use the character "_", "?" or ".".
Author A search on authors can include the last name of any author of a publication. Note that when sorting the results by author, the sort includes all author names, not just the primary author.
Title A title search can include any word in the original title. If a publication includes a translation of the title, that translated title cannot be searched on.
Other This includes almost all other text fields except authors and titles. Such fields include the names and locations of conferences, and names of journals.
Combining fields There is a logical-AND between search fields. In other words, if the search includes authors and titles, then the results will include just those publications meeting the author search criteria, as well as the title search criteria.
