Federal Environment Ministry appoints environmental verifier of Müller BBM to German EMAS Advisory Board

Dr. Stefan Bräker, Müller-BBM Cologne, and cooperation partner Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Thorsten Grantner, OmniCert GmbH, appointed new members of German EMAS Advisory Board.

The Federal Environment Ministry has appointed Dr. Stefan Bräker, authorized environmental expert and appointed and accredited expert for emissions trading of the engineering company Müller-BBM GmbH, and Dipl.-Ing. Thorsten Grantner, authorized environmental expert and managing director of OmniCert GmbH, a cooperation partner of Müller-BBM, to the German EMAS Advisory Board ("Umweltgutachterausschuss"). With a wide scope of accreditation, both environmental experts perform verifications according to EMAS, ISO 14001 and ISO 16001, in the fields of EEG 2009 and energy management as well as concerning the Federal Greenhouse Gas Emission Trading Act ("Treibhausgas-Emissionshandelsgesetz" - TEHG).

In the preparatory meeting of the 6th session of the German EMAS Advisory Board in Berlin they discussed the implementation of EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) together with other experts. EMAS is an European system for a legally compliant, sustainable and performance-oriented industrial environmental protection with an accredited licensing and supervisory system controlled by the state.

As an independent committee, German EMAS Advisory Board has been advising the Federal Environment Ministry on all questions concerning EMAS as well as on the various activities of environmental verifiers since 1995. Authorized environmental verifiers are active e.g. in the range of the Federal Greenhouse Gas Emission Trading Act (TEHG), the Renewable Energies Act (EEG 2009) and the certification of ISO 14001 and 16001, the Regulation on Specialised Waste Enterprises (EfBV) and other fields of environmental law like energy management and plant supervision. Being a multi-stakeholder forum of representatives of economy, trade unions, environmental associations, administration and accredited environmental experts, EMAS Advisory Board brings together different groups from the field of environmental management and actively stands up for the implementation and propagation of EMAS with its unique and worldwide established licensing and supervisory system.
