Planegg near Munich, 2011-12-01 - On 14th and 15th November 2011, the first "Workshop on railway acoustics" of the railway technology sector took place in Planegg near Munich. In the joint event of the German Railway Industry Association (VDB), the companies Müller-BBM GmbH and DB Systemtechnik and the Department of Structural Mechanics of the Technical University of Munich, information on innovations and background information was given and current issues concerning the field of railway acoustics were discussed. "The further improvement of railway acoustics is a central challenge to increase public acceptance of railway traffic. Effective technical noise control measures serve not only to make the environment of railway tracks more attractive, but also help to further increase the climate-friendly railway traffic and, at the same time, take into account the interests of the persons concerned", says Axel Schuppe, managing director of the VDB.

75 participants from all fields of railway acoustics, system houses, suppliers of railway technology, infrastructure and railway traffic companies, engineering companies, administration, research facilities and universities met in Müller-BBM’s new seminar centre for a professional exchange.

The range of topics of the two-day event comprised all the fields standardization, vehicle registration, infrastructure, vibrations, innovative noise control measures and exterior vehicle noise. Dr Stefan Lutzenberger (Müller-BBM GmbH), one of the initiators of the event, draws a positive balance: "I am very happy about the great interest and the intensive exchange of knowledge. All participants agree upon having another Workshop on railway acoustics next year." For this workshop, all persons interested are warmly invited. The call for papers will be made by the end of January 2012.
