„In the future, we must comply with the strictest possible emission values within the ranges of the BAT conclusion“
Gerald Ebertsch, Senior Government Director of Department 2 Air, Noise, Plant Safety at the Bavarian State Office for the Environment (LfU) in Augsburg, opened the 21st Müller-BBM Expert Discussions held from 19th to 20th March 2025 in Munich.
In addition to his remarks on the general significance of immission control, Mr Ebertsch used his welcoming address to draw attention to current topics such as the new measurement obligations of the Air Quality Directive, e.g. for ultra-fine particles (UFP), and the challenges of the Industrial Emissions Directive in implementing new BAT conclusions. He summarised the positive results achieved to date and the outlook for the future as follows: ‘Immission control has always been challenging, but it has also been extremely successful. This has been made possible by an efficient national and international clean air policy. I very much hope that we will see similar successes in climate protection.’
More than 100 participants from municipalities, plant operators, public authorities and consulting firms took advantage of the two-day conference to share their experiences and discuss the current state of immission control in planning and approval practice on the basis of numerous practical examples. The fully booked conference was moderated, as always, by Walter Grotz and Joachim Bittner. The 22nd Müller-BBM Expert Discussions will take place in Berlin from 17th to 18th September 2025. It is already possible to register for the event.
