Müller-BBM to monitor railway noise in Switzerland

The Swiss Federal Office of Transport (FOT) has entrusted Müller-BBM with the delivery and operation of six long-term monitoring stations for railway noise.

With the completed modernisation of Swiss rolling stock and a successful noise remediation of the entire railroad network rail infrastructure in Switzerland has achieved a legal state in terms of noise legislation in 2015. The continuous measurements scheduled for the upcoming 10 years serve as an ongoing review of the current state. They are to ensure that there will be no extreme situations going beyond the noise limits. To boot, with the monitoring measurements at six permanent sites and at one variable position it will be possible to record how noise emissions from railway traffic develop over time.

Once the data are statistically evaluated by Müller-BBM they will be available on a web interface for both the customer and the public. The measuring stations thus contribute actively to make railway traffic in Switzerland quieter.
