Paper "Managing noise from parked trains"

Due to the urban development of sites in close proximity to existing railway sidings and the increase of modern commuter trains (multiple unit trains), noise from parked trains becomes an increasing problem. In addition to this, old trains are more and more being exchanged with modern ones that generally come with a far larger number of technical aggregates. The fact that this may also raise the noise level of the parked trains has so far attracted too little attention in tenders and procurement specifications.

Within the scope of a study on noise caused by parked trains carried out for the International Union of Railways (UIC), noise-relevant processes have been identified, general noise control measures and strategies have been determined and a cost-benefit analysis has been carried out.
