Results of ambient air quality measurements in the vicinity of natural gas production facilities published

On behalf of the German Federal Association for Natural Gas, Petroleum and Geoenergy (Bundesverband Erdgas, Erdöl und Geoenergie e.V., BVEG), Müller BBM GmbH carried out and successfully completed an extensive measurement programme for the detection of aromatic hydrocarbons (BTEX) in the vicinity of extraction sites.

After a measurement period of one year from October 2020 to September 2021, the results of these measurements at a total of 70 measurement points were presented to the client already in December 2021. Information on the objectives, methods and the main results and conclusions can be found on the BVEG website.

Representatives of the Gelsenkirchen branch of Müller-BBM GmbH as an accredited and independent engineering office planned the measurement campaign methodically, realised it continuously over the measurement period and evaluated it in the overall context in a detailed final report. The report has now been published by the BVEG (here).

Dr. Alexander Ropertz, responsible division manager of Müller-BBM GmbH, concludes: "It becomes clear that the measured values are at a typical nationwide background level. A negative influence of natural gas production on the ambient air in the neighbourhood cannot be derived from the measurement results.“
