Stakeholders in human cremation meet to exchange experiences
From September 16-17, 2024, stakeholders from the DACH region met at Müller-BBM in Planegg. As part of the conference, which was planned as a follow-up event to the Osnabrück DBU conferences and organized by the Managing Director of Schetter GmbH & Co. KG, Dr. Gebhard Schetter, and held jointly with Müller-BBM Industry Solutions GmbH, the current topics in the industry were discussed intensively and the changes in funeral culture were also addressed.
The event, which was attended by a total of 80 participants and speakers, was held in hybrid form, with the majority (almost 90%) opting to attend in person on site.
In addition to safe compliance with emission limits, crematoria are increasingly being assessed from an energy-efficient perspective these days. This approach was reinforced by the identified gas shortage, which consequently also led to a critical examination of the minimum temperature requirement in the afterburner chamber contained in the 27th BImSchV.
In addition to primary-side energy efficiency improvements, secondary-side measures for waste heat utilization are also gaining in importance. As some crematoria have undergone an energy audit and their CO2 emissions have been determined, the update of VDI Guideline 3891 also deals with the CO2 footprint of crematoria.
In his opening speech, Walter Grotz explained the services of Müller-BBM Industry Solutions GmbH in the field of cremation, e.g. carrying out emission measurements, preparing expert reports on chimney height calculations, air pollution control and noise immission control, and drew attention to the large number of upcoming specialist events organized by Müller-BBM Industry Solutions GmbH. In his presentation, his colleague Christopher König highlighted the implementation of “Emission measurements in accordance with the 27th BImSchV”.
Judith Könsgen, Managing Director of Rhein-Taunus-Krematorium GmbH, who was present as a participant and speaker, summarized the two days with the words: “I was impressed by the participants at the Crematoria symposium. Operators, plant manufacturers, legislators and authorities worked together to find solutions for the sustainable development and operation of crematoria. In other words, for each other and not against each other.”
The book on the conference has been published by Fachverlag des deutschen Bestattungsgewerbes under ISBN 978-3-936057-83-6.
