Electromagnetic environmental compatibility
The assessment of health-related risks due to electromagnetic fields was once the domain of building biologists who offered their services with at times very simple measurement options using the catchword “electrosmog”. This area is now legally regulated since adoption of the 26th Ordinance of the Federal Emission Control Act with regard to electromagnetic fields at the end of 1996, and observance of the respective limits must be proven during licensing procedures, with professional measurements and evaluations being performed in the event of any doubt. Workplaces must be checked for compliance with the regulations of the employers' liability insurance associations BGV B11.
The measurements or calculations of the expected electromagnetic fields are the basis of the expert opinions.
Measurements of electromagnetic fields can be performed across the entire frequency range between 0 Hz (static field) and 40 GHz. The electrical and/or magnetic field intensity is measured. Wideband sensors and test antennae with spectral analysers are available. All measurement equipment is portable and intended for outdoor use. The data can be recorded, subsequently displayed, and statistically analysed for all the measurements. All measuring devices have traceable calibration and are subject to in-house test equipment monitoring.
If measurements cannot be performed (e.g. during licensing procedures), then a field calculation programme (Winfield Enterprise) can be used. That way, even area-wide emission forecasts can be made both in the high and low frequency ranges (e.g. mobile phone base stations, transformers, high-voltage lines etc.).
The electromagnetic compatibility laboratory is accredited according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018 (DAkkS registration number D-PL-14119-01-02).
