Machine acoustics

Low noise generation is an important sign of quality in machinery and devices.

For one thing, the Machinery Directive (2006/42/EG) requires low-noise design and a qualified labelling of noise emissions from machinery and machine components in the industrial sector. Secondly, high standards relative to plant noise compel the selection of components with minimum noise emission and the adoption of measures for extensive noise reduction. A growing awareness of quality on the part of users leads to a preference for quiet devices and/or those "with a nice sound".

Our consultation work in machinery acoustics aims to determine the noise emissions of machinery, elaborate meaningful acoustic specifications for machinery, develop measures for complying with the given acoustic levels, and supporting clients in improving the design of machinery in terms of noise emissions.

Measurement of noise emissions

Müller-BBM Industry Solutions GmbH is an accredited test laboratory for the measurement of noise emissions in accordance with established standards and regulations. We determine the noise emissions from machinery in accordance with relevant standardised methods at the service location, on the manufacturer's premises or in our laboratories. At our Planegg/Munich location, a reverberation room and an anechoic room are available for measurements under free-field conditions. We support you in the standardised labelling of machinery according to the EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.

Acoustic specification

Müller-BBM Industry Solutions GmbH undertakes to draw up noise specifications of individual components from a specified noise standard that applies to a complete system, regardless of whether that system is a vehicle, a piece of office equipment or a processing plant. Müller-BBM Industry Solutions GmbH's task consists of achieving the best possible outcome for the entire system with the help of technically meaningful standards for individual components as part of the current state of noise-reduction technology with optimum cost efficiency.

Developing noise reduction measures

Machinery is frequently designed for optimum functionality and not for minimum noise generation. We provide you with advice when it comes to design modifications for machinery in the interests of acoustic optimisation and low-noise designs of devices and equipment.

However, the situation frequently arises that even low-noise machines can only be adapted to an environment with specific noise-reduction requirements with the help of secondary noise-reduction measures, such as silencers or enclosures. Müller-BBM Industry Solutions GmbH addresses this issue by suggesting suitable measures and developing special solutions, as required. Furthermore, we have our own test benches for noise measurement of silencers and wall elements.

Machine dynamics

Inadmissibly high airborne or structure-borne noise emissions can result in damage to the equipment or disrupt operation. These noises are frequently caused by resonance phenomena in burners, valves, boilers or heat exchangers. Müller-BBM Industry Solutions GmbH evaluates the potential damage caused by vibration for you using established damage accumulation hypotheses.
