New standard work of the company Müller-BBM on "Akustik und Schallschutz" (English: "Acoustics and Noise Control")

Employees of the company Müller-BBM have been and still are playing a decisive role in writing standard works of acoustics, like the »Taschenbuch der Technischen Akustik« ("Paperback on technical acoustics"), »Körperschall« ("Structure-borne sound") (both published by Springer-Verlag) and DIN 18005 »Schallschutz im Städtebau« ("Noise abatement in town planning").

Now, another standard work has been published as a guideline for the acoustic planning of rooms.

Translated from the announcement (in German) in the architect webportal Detail.de:

Perhaps noise control and acoustics are not the primary parameters that usually have an influence on the planning of a building, however, at such times as when you do not understand the lecturer in a seminar room, the noise level in an open-plan office becomes unbearable or the snoring of a neighbour gives you sleepless nights, it becomes clear how much good room acoustics contribute to our general well-being. Not only is a good acoustic quality important for concert halls or ancient amphitheatres, but each building, and even each room, has an acoustic dimension varying in its specific requirements according to its respective function.

The present practically orientated volume provides all planners and architects, but also building owners interested in acoustics, with practical knowledge on the subject of acoustics in building construction, starting with standard regulations on planning and prediction methods up to the subjects of room acoustics, building acoustics and noise abatement in town planning.

In typological chapters, it is described how to deal correctly with the subject of acoustics concerning different types of buildings, like, for example, residential and office buildings, schools, kindergartens, lecture halls and function rooms. Ultimately, the volume is designed to raise the awareness of the reader of how adequate acoustic conditions can contribute to the success of a project.
