Publication in “holztechnologie” – the specialist magazine in the field of wood technology

The article “Odour emission measurement and determination of odour in ambient air in a plant of the wood-based panels industry” by Katharina Braunmiller of Müller-BBM’s branch office in Karlsruhe and Boris Zimmermann of the branch office in Gelsenkirchen was published on pages 5 to 12 of issue 2/2019 of the specialist magazine “holztechnologie”.

“The research project “Odour emission measurement and determination of odour in ambient air in a plant of the wood-based panels industry”, which was awarded within the scope of the departmental research plan of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Construction and Nuclear Safety by the Federal Environmental Agency (FKZ 3715 51 307 0), shall help to explain the connections between an increased odour concentration and, at the same time, a situation with reduced complaints and thus contribute to putting a regulation on odour emissions for plants of the wood-based panels industry in concrete terms. In summary, it can be said that the frequencies of occurrence of odours in ambient air according to the propagation calculation predicted on the basis of emission measurements are in very good agreement with the actually measured frequencies of occurrence of odours in ambient air. Concerning the investigated plant, in spite of a clear variation of the measured odour concentrations in the central stack, traceable and plausible statements on the actual odour load caused by the plant in the investigated area can be made on the basis of the prognosis of odours in ambient air.”
